Louis Ong is a blockchain industry consultant who has been enthusiastic about new technology since he was a young boy. He co-authored the book "Blockchain: A History," and is co-founder of The Internet of Things. He is also director of the Mises Institute's Global Economics Program. He speaks regularly at academic conferences, symposia and private seminars. In 2015, he was featured in the Financial Times, CNBC, The New Yorker, The Economist, and more.
His biggest passion is to educate people about the impact this new technology will have on society. He has been on numerous panels and presentations about this topic and has had a multitude of contacts at various organizations working with the blockchain technology.
Ong founded the CoinDesk Research Lab at the Washington State University Vancouver in December 2014 with Andrew McInerny, Gavin Wood, Daniel Zawada and Thomas Gist. Ong joined TechCrunch on October 3, 2013. Before moving into the startup world, he ran the startup accelerator Uno in Vancouver, Washington, where he ran various technology startups, including the Open Bazaar and Bitcoin Embassy, and hosted the Vancouver conference for Vancouver entrepreneurs and businesses.
Although he is currently working on many different projects, he is always eager to enter into contact with entrepreneurial companies that can take what he already knows and apply it to his purpose. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, he attended Washington State University, where he met his wife Vivian. Together moved and they raised their children in Portland, Oregon. Ong and his wife founded their own business there. She worked as a store cashier and his son as a waiter. Over time, they found that a less volatile atmosphere in the nearby suburbs on Vancouver, Washington, where they moved to raise their children.
